Actually, for a novice to PTV, Mainah’s Allies put up an impressive and even worrisome defense of the Atlantic and Pacific.

RE: League General Discussion Thread
If we use badges to represent our interest, then we need to have badge for each possible combination. For example, some players (including myself) might be interested in BM and PoV but not OoB. My recommendation would be:
Infantry = OoB
Arty = BM
Tank = PtV
Sub = OoB + BM
DD = OoB + PtV
CA = BM + PtV
BB = OoB + BM + PtV -
RE: League General Discussion Thread
My sense is that PTV is most balanced game because it takes only a small bid to make the game even or fair for both sides. The ideally balanced game would not require bidding at all, and PTV seems to have a chance of achieving this.

That classified Top Secret, but it is a reasonable assumption.

RE: 19L ArtofWar1947 (L) vs AetV (X) BM3 game II
With all those G and J bombers and strong J fleet, I was really sweating it. The Axis was only 1 VC from winning, and the strong move on Hawaii had me scrambling. Thanks for an exciting game.

RE: 19L G40 BM3 Game III ArtofWar1947 (Axis) vs. AetV (Allies)
Thanks for a most interesting game. The constant threat of Allied Atlantic amphibious assaults, the stalemate on the Russian front, the Allied all out attack on Japan, and all those bombers had me really worried for the longest time.
I’d be happy to play again next season.
Best, Art -

@ArtofWar1947
I am going to have my hands full playing JDOW in playoffs and my ongoing game. But I would welcome a set of re-matches once done with one of these games. -

No complaint inferred; I was just trying to respond to your witty comment with an attempt at humor.

FMERommel (AX) over ArtofWar1947 (AL) in a 51-round BM3 marathon. Congratulations to the Field Marshal for a relentless offense. https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/33924/fmerommel-x-vs-artofwar1947-l-bm3-19l/776

@axis-dominion
It has not been a a problem. -
RE: L20 PTV ArtofWar1947 (Axis) vs. Avner (Allies)
I have learned more in my losing efforts than I have my winning ones.
You are doing a job of keeping it interesting and challenging.

You are correct. I’ll edit the map.

Sounds good. Will await your G-1 CM post.

RE: L21 PTV Avner (Axis) vs. ArtofWar1947 (Allies)
Did not scramble fighters to defend SZ 107 or 97, because in each case there was a 98% chance (or better) of an Ally victory.

RE: L21 PTV Avner (Axis) vs. ArtofWar1947 (Allies)
One suggestion I saw in response to your request for feedback was be aggressive. Although all the other suggestions were useful, this suggestion was not. Obviously, he had not played you before. My impression is that you are aggressive, but it needs to be focused on a strategic plan.
For example, in our previous game, the UK attacked the German fleet and eliminated it in Round 1. This was an easy victory, but it left the remaining UK Atlantic fleet exposed to a vicious counterattack. Granted losing the German fleet hampered Axis expansionist plans. However, the lost of the entire UK Atlantic fleet left the Allies in an even more difficult situation: An inability to control SZ 93 and retake Gibraltar and Morocco. The lost of the UK Atlantic fleet, then, was a major turning point in our previous game.
Another example of unfocused aggressiveness was the the German-1 turn of our present game. My sense was that you were trying to accomplish too much with 3 sea battles and 3 land battles and stretched your resources. Yes, all the battles had 80% or better chance of victory, and sometimes the Germans can get away with winning all six. However, with so many battles, the Germans not infrequently misfire or even have epic fails. For example, I recently had a game were I did not overpower Normandy on G-1, my opponent scrambled the French fighter, and I failed to N-B. This is why with my G-1 turn in our first game, I did not attack SZ 114, but used the resources to overwhelm N-B and other targets.
You like to do a lot of little raids, and–no doubt–this is frustrating to your opponents. My suggestion, though, is do a lot of little raids all at once. This is especially important for Allies in the Pacific. This way an opponent cannot recover any/all the lost ground quickly the next turn.
I recommend reviewing Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War,” a classic text on military strategy. Although reading the entire text might be helpful, reading an overview (se, e.g., https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Art_of_War would be a good start.
One tenet of the AoW is know your enemy. This can be surprisingly useful in AA. Knowing that an opponent tends to attack on Round 1, 2, 3, or 4 as the Japanese, can aid greatly in planning a defense. I review any opponent’s last few games to get a sense of their tendencies.
Another tenet of AoW is don’t divide your force. In our last game, the Germans divided their forces into a northern advance and a southern advance and never had sufficient force in either army to overwhelm the Russians and keep a drive (to Russia or the oil fields) going. If the Germans do not accomplish one of those goals quickly, the Axis will probably lose the war in the West and quite possibility in the game.
Your J-2 attack on the Western powers meant the Japanese had to fight on a wide front and really stretch their resources. As a result, the Chinese were never squelched and UK-Pac was never seriously threatened and was allowed build up strength. Then, as if Japan did not already have enough to contend with, it attacked the Russians. My rule of thumb is to leave Russia alone until I have enough force available to destroy most of the available troops and be able to keep pushing the remainder back.

Not a waste if it helps.
Yes, reviewing other games, especially those of the Masters, is good way of learning too.

RE: L21 #2 ArtofWar1947 (AX+12) vs. Trulpen (AL) PTV
At 2:1 odds, a safe assumption.
