  @thethedew I don’t own the game, but I think the main point of it is that it is not WW2 based. This way the game has appeal to people who aren’t that interested in WW2.

  @SeaYa quick point of reference. I play test games. So no version, certainly not out of box, is completely baked. And this is proven by 2nd editions and tournament rules. That is why I have been advocating for a governing body for years. Gotta go.

  A&A North Africa - TO I8.pdf Hello everyone, I propose the position on the board at the beginning of the eighth turn of Italy in the “Operation Torch” scenario to have your opinions on the strategy of the game in practice (often “abstract” considerations are made, before playing, which then “clash” with what actually happens on the board). In this game I was assigned the American (we decided to draw by lot at the beginning of each game the power with which we will play in order to be able to experiment and try the game under various aspects). This is only the third game we play and the first ever with “Operation Torch” (so there may again be involuntary errors in the rules, but games also serve this purpose: to clarify doubts and avoid errors for the future). The English have (as I think is obvious) heavily attacked MM in the first turn and took Tobruck in the second, wiping out all Axis resistance, but they lost Malta (this also seems to me an almost inevitable thing if the Axis decides to concentrate on it) and a good part of the fleet has sunk due to the mines around the Mediterranean Channel (very lucky shots by the Axis) and the action of the Italian air force, managing however to eliminate some German supplies. The Axis has destroyed a good part of the American convoy with its 3 U-boats (it sank the 2 destroyers and part of the cargo) and is preparing for an offensive to the West towards Casablanca. The Italians I imagine will try to create a front around Tripoli, waiting to be able to organize a counteroffensive against the English if the latter “stretches too far” without due preparation. As an American I plan to invest in the very first turn in planes (forbidden in turn 7) that can serve as escorts to convoys against the terrible German U-boats, but also as attack/defense units; I will also take destroyers and some ground troops (in addition to the fixed 10 supply) trying to contain the German initiative in Algiers to try to organize a counteroffensive as soon as there are enough troops. I also have to understand which convoy to use and which is more convenient (considering that in the seventh turn I could not choose being forced to use the one in Casablanca). It is the first time that we play this scenario which, however, gives me the impression of being a bit unbalanced in favor of the Allies (maybe it will have depended on the initial moves, on strategic and tactical errors, I don’t know). However, it seems clear to me that only the Allies can, in this scenario, aim for a total victory (since Tunis is a concrete and achievable objective, if everything goes well), while Cairo seems to me really a utopia for the Axis. But I would like your considerations as experienced players. Eventually I will update you on the continuation of the match (I think we will resume it on Saturday).

  In fact for the moment we still love the AA42 2d Edition for many reasons like the interception rules that is officially this way :

  Both the attacking bombers and fighter escorts, if any, fire with an attack value of 1.
  For each “1” rolled, a defending interceptor is immediately removed as a casualty. The surviving defending interceptors then fire with a defense value of 2.
  For each result of “2” or less, the attacker chooses a casualty and removes it.
  After the air battle is complete, or if there were no defending fighter interceptors, surviving fighter escorts are considered to be
  retreated. They don’t participate in the actual bombing raid, are not subject to antiaircraft fire, and will remain in the territory
  until the Noncombat Move phase. Any surviving attacking bombers carry out the bombing raid as described above.

  Plus we ask the defending factory to pay directly in IPCs the bombing (max twice the value of the territory) like in the old versions!

  Agreed for the most part. I will add to those who haven’t played the game that the full effects of the Joe income advantage don’t come into play until the 5th or 6th round, so Cobra have around half of the game to try to eke out a victory.

  @Krieghund Thank you for the swift reply. I don’t think that thought crossed my opponent’s mind (we usually play Global, so the idea of attacking Germany…and leaving oneself open to counterattack…is not on the radar).

  @Glamorboy A big load of subs can definitely be useful, and if you aren’t trying to protect transports at all, it is a good option. True, one carrier and 2 fighters loses to 5 subs. Typically though, your navy will be much more expensive than $34 and the fighters are also relevant on land. Also, subs are not good at defense while fighters defense kings.

  When I play against friends who are new, I just give them a bid. If they win, their bid goes down and if they lose, their bid goes up. I never spend money on both coasts as US because I feel like I can never get anything going at all and it seems like all the money is wasted. Also, I think it is more helpful to use viable, typical strategies against new players so that they know what to expect. I have learned a lot more about the game through losing than I ever have by winning.

  Depends on the skill and experience of the players, with 2 or 4 players with each playing their own countries so no 2 generals for each country it will take 12-16 hours i recon. After that you might not have won the game but it becomes so obvious that 1 side might as well resign.

  Tournamen rules game can be done in about 8-10 hours, with 2 players a bit faster with 4 as you can play parallel.

  Assuming that you can do quick combat rolls ( so 4 colors ) and have more then the 12 dice that come with the game. Having your dice pool to reflect the units and just removing them once your doing fighting saves a lot of time in the long run.

  @Rescue55-joe I believe the “10 IPCs for each country” that you are referring to are actually the National Control Markers, which are used to track both conquered territories and national production levels. As barnee pointed out, IPCs are not physically provided, and the Rulebook instructs us to track them on paper, but any proxy (such as Monopoly money) will do. See page 7 of the Rulebook for details on both National Control Markers and IPCs.

  In a nutshell, the National Production Track is used to chart your “income” using a National Control Marker. and every turn the “money” goes into your “bank account”, which is represented by IPCs, where it can be spent on new units (or saved for later).

  Aargh. I see the .R for most of those entries. Good move by Renegade to use those sculpts more. I have limited need for them, but tempted to buy AA41 just to have those different sculpts. I’m a bit demented and decided to make everything match in my collection via expanding my mini pool with a 2nd copy of AA40E.2. I’ll probably get a copy of AA41 2E since its colors have a chance of matching with World.2E. (Hopefully this makes sense as I’m nodding off at the keyboard as i write.)
