  “Pinned” Categories: What I mean by this is that users can right-click categories and “pin” them to the top of the forum page. The reason why the pinning is air quoted is because it would only show up on that users end (If I “pinned” a category, only I could see it).

  That sounds like a functionality request for NodeBB. It would be fairly core so I’m not sure I can write a plugin to do this.

  Themes: While it could just be light and dark mode, I think it would be cool to have ones based off of Axis and Allies games. For example, 1984 Classic would have almost like that 80s paint style, 1914 could have the gradient of the map over a tan background and have trenches and gas masks at the bottom. This is just another thing that would add flavor.

  Themes can be difficult to maintain. I’m actually considering moving to the new default “look and feel” of NodeBB soon. I’ll have to re-theme that with the colors I would prefer so I’ll take a look at making multiple themes.

  I hope you consider these additions!

  @thethedew I don’t own the game, but I think the main point of it is that it is not WW2 based. This way the game has appeal to people who aren’t that interested in WW2.

  @OlivieroRuggieri Hi Oliviero,
  I am anything but an expert player but i have played around 8 games of North Africa at this point (6 playing the axis vs a friend, and 2 vs myself) so i feel like i can give you some of my findings at least.

  As the axis, using the known ITA - GER Can opener from global is always a good bet, attack with italy first, Tanks, inf and arty supported by planes (preferably bombers), after that use german tanks with mechanized inf + planes to finish the job. this works best before round 7 since the us hasnt joined yet and cant counter in between the turns of ITA and GER. You also have to try to keep supplies from getting to malta if you can, the 15 ipcs the uk gets can really hurt in the long run, even more so if they get it multiple round.

  Now as for allies im not that experienced as i have mostly played axis, but i can tell you this, use the 12 ipc starting reinforcements to get a mix of ind/arty/AT/tanks, i dont know if there is a optimal setup but tank + arty/AT + inf makes a nice 12. In my experience it is your best bet to try to get navy control of the med, to protect malta or to disrupt convoys. So first round UK i would buy a battleship + either 2 destroyers or battleship + 1 destroyer and a sub, spawn them at gibraltar and round 2 you can combine them with you starting navy in the malta convoy zone. Put down some sea mines and try to get 2 fighters in malta the convoy zone to really lock it down. The axis can still try to contest it if they really try but 2 battleships + 3 destroyers + 1/2 fighters + sea mines should be quite a deterrent

  You also want to be trying to put as many land mines down as possible, on tobruk, bengazi, mersa matruh and cairo, in the Rommel scenario the uk will be under immense pressure and you have to survive until round 7. Focus on mining cairo every turn. Also try using you starting scout jeeps to destroy as much axis supply as you can, dont use them on 1 territory but try to spread them out and maybe even kill a plane if you get lucky rolls

  As for unit efficiency, inf is always good, the matilda seems really cost effecive (5 ipc for a 5 def 4 attack is pretty nice) the downside is they get 1 movement so no blitzing or cheeky flanks. Ive played a game as the axis vs a matilda spam and it was not that nice. If you combine them with some meat shield like inf or arty/AT you get a nice defensive force with the means to counter attack.

  Those are all the things i could think of right now, hope it helps you in your coming games.

  In fact for the moment we still love the AA42 2d Edition for many reasons like the interception rules that is officially this way :

  Both the attacking bombers and fighter escorts, if any, fire with an attack value of 1.
  For each “1” rolled, a defending interceptor is immediately removed as a casualty. The surviving defending interceptors then fire with a defense value of 2.
  For each result of “2” or less, the attacker chooses a casualty and removes it.
  After the air battle is complete, or if there were no defending fighter interceptors, surviving fighter escorts are considered to be
  retreated. They don’t participate in the actual bombing raid, are not subject to antiaircraft fire, and will remain in the territory
  until the Noncombat Move phase. Any surviving attacking bombers carry out the bombing raid as described above.

  Plus we ask the defending factory to pay directly in IPCs the bombing (max twice the value of the territory) like in the old versions!

  Agreed for the most part. I will add to those who haven’t played the game that the full effects of the Joe income advantage don’t come into play until the 5th or 6th round, so Cobra have around half of the game to try to eke out a victory.

  @Krieghund Thank you for the swift reply. I don’t think that thought crossed my opponent’s mind (we usually play Global, so the idea of attacking Germany…and leaving oneself open to counterattack…is not on the radar).

  @Glamorboy A big load of subs can definitely be useful, and if you aren’t trying to protect transports at all, it is a good option. True, one carrier and 2 fighters loses to 5 subs. Typically though, your navy will be much more expensive than $34 and the fighters are also relevant on land. Also, subs are not good at defense while fighters defense kings.

  When I play against friends who are new, I just give them a bid. If they win, their bid goes down and if they lose, their bid goes up. I never spend money on both coasts as US because I feel like I can never get anything going at all and it seems like all the money is wasted. Also, I think it is more helpful to use viable, typical strategies against new players so that they know what to expect. I have learned a lot more about the game through losing than I ever have by winning.

  @Rescue55-joe I believe the “10 IPCs for each country” that you are referring to are actually the National Control Markers, which are used to track both conquered territories and national production levels. As barnee pointed out, IPCs are not physically provided, and the Rulebook instructs us to track them on paper, but any proxy (such as Monopoly money) will do. See page 7 of the Rulebook for details on both National Control Markers and IPCs.

  In a nutshell, the National Production Track is used to chart your “income” using a National Control Marker. and every turn the “money” goes into your “bank account”, which is represented by IPCs, where it can be spent on new units (or saved for later).
