Now that Axis & Allies Battle of the Bulge is available in stores it’s not time to speculate about the next installment in the Axis & Allies series. The rumor is that the next version will be Axis & Allies Guadalcanal. The clues come from some statements made by the creator of Axis & Allies himself, Larry Harris.
First, in an interview with Larry Harris in August 2005 on The Dice Tower Larry mentions, “I can’t be very specific, but at the moment I’m working on a major battle that took place in the Pacific.”
Next, in a post on the, now missing, Matrix Games forum on Larry’s own website Larry allegedly stated the following on March 4, 2006, “ I’ve just knocked off Battle of the Bulge and Guadalcanal – I’m friggen exhausted already. Actually work is still going on with these two.”
On Nov 12, 2006, the latest clue was revealed by Craig A Yope in a discussion on Larry’s site. Larry was going to create a Guadacanal game for Matrix games, who primarily does computer games. The rumor is that Hasbro/Avalon Hill found out about it and gave a better offer and now the game will be released by Hasbro/Avalon Hill. Larry’s response was, “Comments noted… appreciate your interest in this game. At the moment there is not a lot I can say. Stay tuned and keep the faith.”
