RE: Axis and Allies Pacific 1940 2nd Edition ( AAP40.2) FAQ/question
@Panther, thanks, that link is gold, I hadn’t found it in the “axis-allies-rules-pacific1940-corrections-faqs.pdf” (Feb 1, 2010), but now I see it’s also there, p3:
" Q. Are the Canadian territories (Yukon Territory and British Columbia) controlled by the United
Kingdom?
A. Yes."

RE: đź‘‹ Introduce or Re-Introduce Yourself (Current)
Where are you from?
Hi, I’m Michel, living in the Netherlands. Mostly boardgaming and rp-ing the last 20 yrs, but have been a fanatic wargamer in my youth. What Axis & Allies games do you like to play?
I own Pacific 1940 since about 10yrs, and unboxed it tonight :cold_sweat: only, to discover it as solitaire during the holidays. Main reason is no friend available or interested to play such long games. How often do you play?
Well, I’m discovering the game, so that’s that. Not played any other wargame for years, played ASL, a lot of tactical games - Napoleonic to more recent - before the advent of computer or online games, e.g. Air Force, Dauntless, Submarine, Ambush!, The Great Patriotic War, Napoleon’s Last Battles, Panzerblitz, and more recently Britannia and the more abstract, less wargamy Shogun.Do you use any customizations (tables, painted pieces) or house rules?
Nope, got to discover the game first… feel quite daunted at the complexity of the “open field”, infinite options, and “unit purchases”After having read the rules and looked in vain for real-time recordings of games of Pacific 1940 2nd edition to get a realistic feel of how it all works, I am still confused… :anguished:
Glad I found this community and look forward to check game logs and other sources…

RE: US 30 IPC bonus question
Hi,
About the US 30 IPC bonus in Pacific 40 -only :Do I understand correctly that from the moment the US is at war, it gets 30 IPCs EACH TURN as its National objective bonus for “Major shift from peacetime to wartime economy” as long as it controls the Western US territory, ON TOP of the official FAQ/errata immediate one-time bonus of 30 IPCs following any unprovoked declaration of war by Japan ?
NB: I think I understood well that the immediate bonus is intended to provide immediate IPCs available for the US in phase 1 of the same turn as the JP declaration of war, whereas the national bonus will only boost the income in phase 6, to be spent in phase 1 of the next US turn.
Apologies for a probably obvious question, I am playing alone at the moment with a 2009 copy of AA Pacific, so I have to learn it all from scratch collecting the rules downloads and grasping here and there from the youtube tuto’s that many of you have posted
Grateful for all  -

RE: Aircraft on a defending carrier
I know the discussion settled long ago, but since @apollyon was last to post something that seems incorrect, I think it better to rectify.
The Pacific 1940 2nd Ed. rules clearly say p31 “If that carrier is destroyed or damaged in combat, they [the defending fighters] must try to land on a different friendly carrier in the same sea zone, move 1 space to a friendly carrier or territory, or be destroyed.”
I cannot find the exact quote in the rules, [please bear with me], but you spend one move each time you cross a dividing line on the map :- from a territory to another territory, (land and air units)
- from a sea zone to another sea zone, (naval and air units)
- from a sea zone to an island/adjacent territory and vice-versa (air units)
Since I don’t have Europe or Global, let me provide an AAP40E2 example:
A FIG in SZ36 having defended from an attack on their previously undamaged but now sunken CV could land on :- another friendly CV in SZ36 (no move), or adjacent SZs 20, 35, 37, 43 (move 1 space),
- FIC, Kwangsi or Hainan island if any under friendly control (move 1 space).
They could NOT land on any of friendly Formosa, Philippines or Borneo (move 2 spaces), nor on Malaya, Shan State, Siam, Kwangtung or Kiangsi (also move 2 spaces).

RE: Axis and Allies Pacific 1940 2nd Edition ( AAP40.2) FAQ/question
@AndrewAAGamer, thank you ! So in spite of British Columbia having the Canadian/UK-Europe control tag, it is counted on UK in Pacific. Good enough for me đź‘Ť

RE: Axis and Allies Pacific 1940 2nd Edition ( AAP40.2) FAQ/question
@Imperious-Leader or anyone active on AAP40.2 :
I would like to understand why all powers except the UK-Pacific start with IPCs that are equal to the sum of the IPCs of their originally controlled territories ?
The UK-Pacific starts with 16 IPCs, but originally controls only 15 on the Pacific map:
Borneo 4
Burma 1
India 3
Kwangtung 3
Malaya 3
Shan State 1West India would give them 2 IPCs but is not on the map, so they should either have 15 or 17 starting IPCs, but get 16…
Why ?

RE: Help learning the game
Hi,
It looks like the 2nd edition rulebooks for AA 1940, both Europe and Pacific, contain the AA Global 1940 rules at the end, with only “minor” game mechanics differences vs. Europe or Pacific (as most Global aspects pertain to managing the merging or expansion from one theater of war to the Global situation).
Is it therefore a fair approach to look for good explanations of AA Global 1940 to understand Europe or Pacific ?
I totally love Board Game Nation’s wonderful series of tutorials on AA, https://youtu.be/IKyWaC0vrtM, because they give detailed examples with dice throws which are very didactic, but they cover 1942 2nd edition, and it appears that there are differences (for instance, strategic bombers get a +2 on strategic raids in 1940, but not in 1942 (at least BGN’s topic on raids doesn’t apply +2 in their example…), and air battle prior to bombing is with 1 attack AND defense in 1942 while interceptors get 2 as defense in 1942. This makes strategic bombing MUCH less efficient in 1942…)
