    When Churchill informed De Gaulle that the British would be withdrawing to Normandy, Charles was furious. Due to his rage it was hard to understand what he was saying, but some words heard included… perfidious Albion… betrayal… repeat of 1914… repeat of 1940…

    Although Winston was unhappy at retreat, and feared this would now leave Europe in the hands of Stalin, he could at least console that he had annoyed the French.
