After reading the threads, I figured maybe this way would be best to find an artist who can help. I’m looking for someone to help our monastery finish it’s customization of AA Global 40 and possible help, with what is necessary, on the pieces for Global War 1936…… the more intricate, the more monks like games like this. We have lots of pieces that are donated and pretty interesting. We would be more than willing to give the leftovers away. The “Ratte” Landkreuzer P. 1000 tank is my favorite. We have 3

Very nice work. I agree with DK, your color tones are spot on.
Nice touch in adding the medic symbol on some of the US infantry. Never seen that before.

Thanks for the comment! On the back of the helmets of some of the US forces, I also added the rank bars haha.

I’m just now getting to this thread, and wow, I’m loving it! I’ll jump on board and agree that your color tones are great. All of your pieces have a very muted feel to them, which I think lends itself to historical accuracy.
I feel your pain about the innumerable decals… they look great though, especially with that matte coat!
Thanks for the pics. If I get around to painting my own French pieces I’ll be referring back for your sculpt mods and paint schemes.

Thanks Spitfire! Curious, how long did it take for you to paint those units on your thread? Ive been working around the clock to get these done, and man, im running out of steam :-o …. and im getting tired of all these pieces/paints all over my dining area lol. Im thinking I may have another month… if my hands hold out that is… I actually have a game scheduled on the 12th, which is what im hoping for, have all these done, but im thinking ill be down a county or 2 :(

It takes me a very long time due to the volume of pieces, the detail, my own standards I’d like to meet, and the decals. My rough working estimate is that it takes me anywhere from 8-12 hours of painting and decaling to finish 40 pieces. It gets easier the more pieces you do in the same colors, because then you can really perfect assembly line painting.
I rarely do more than 3-4 hours of painting in one sitting, which is good because my schedule doesn’t allow for much more than that! John Brown’s project is more of a marathon project than a sprint.
Best of luck getting all of those pieces done! Enjoy the process as much as the product - I try to keep to that motto whenever possible. :-) Personally, it’s a very relaxing hobby, as I can listen to podcasts or music while I paint.

China is up, replaced the P-38 with a fighter that looks more like the Flying Tigers, I used the Brit fighter. Gave them a few artillery, nothing special, a few extras I had laying around. I found a few color schemes for the troops, I chose the light blue-ish as tan and green are already spoken for in that region…. They kinda remind me of an old Bruce Lee movie :)
Next up, Great Britain!
-
Great job on these. I can’t wait to see your Brits. :-)
-
Thanks John, ya this set was not very fun lol, the Brits, ya bro are boss! I already painted the troops, working on ground units now, actually decaling at the moment!
-
A tad more exciting over China units, the British :)
I went with this scheme, as whenever I can do …NOT green, that’s what I go with. I did actually make a few green, but changed my mind in the end, returning them to yellow.
I added more tanks/variants, and also added more troops. You’ll notice some of the troops originally had shorts on, but I filled it with paint haha (though keeping some shorts fellows)
I replaced all the fighters with fighters from my older games, the ones that came with 1940 SE are incorrect with the flat wings, my older ones are correct with the arch… also giving them a bigger air force.
I was a little bummed I couldn’t get tank decals, and I had to paint them :( Also, I ran out of the round decals, so ill need to get more sometime.
174 pieces for Great Britain, up next Russia! Thanks for looking!
-
Wow, these turned out, fantastic. Great job on these. That is a lot of work, there. I don’t how some of you do it, but kudos for doing that many pieces, in that amount of time. :-o
-
Nice work! Those Brit infantry are perfect and the carrier decks are excellent.
-
Thanks guys! Those Brit troops gave me some trouble, actually ended up painting them twice, that’s the thing with acrillic, dries darker. Also, since I wash them in stain, they need to be a few shades lighter then the color I’m after, pain in the rear lol. Thanks again for the comments!
Russia is done, waiting for more decals to come in, hopefully by thurs. Working on Germany now. Can’t wait to wrap these up so I can get back to the map.
-
Sorry for the delay, been busy with other projects, all axis and allies related :). I’ll be sure to get Russia posted tomorrow.
-
Finally new pics, been super busy with other customizations (will show those topics another day)
First off, I mentioned in the France post, Russia reclaimed all their stuff :) In addition I replaced the T34 with T34 from HBG, and also added some T26. The Trucks were also replaced with HBG variants… as I like the open bed look of the HBG piece over the solid top original piece.
The long road is almost over, Germany is done, Anzac is 80% and Italy is 60% … Ill post Germany in a few days, here is a sneak peak though, from our game last week.
Thanks for looking!

siredblood, your Russians are cool. I haven’t seen anyone paint their ground force vehicles, the way you have painted them. I love the way your navy looks. Superb job on this set. :-D

Thanks, though you lost me, not sure what you men about the ground units… color?
Ive had a few redo’s here and there, trying to keep army’s noticeably different on the board. Ive also had to redo some markings on the units, not so much historically accurate anymore, but more game friendly. Our game last week, one of the players got confused on the British and French warships, so even though the British didn’t use roundels on the navy, well… they have roundels now lol.
Another edit is Italy, the game roundel is not really on any unit, they use the … um, lost it…cant remember the name, but the 3 line marker… anyway, so since the units are equipped with that mark, ill be replacing all the roundels in the game to match.
There are many more edits, due to markings.

I never seen anybody use a tannish color on like the trucks and tanks. Most people go with the standard green camouflage or winter camouflage. That is what meant. Sorry for confusing you, lol.
-
oh, think its the light, see the game pic, you can see they are more greenish :) …. the pic of the planes, you can see the artillery, that’s the color of the tanks/trucks. I didn’t notice the tan effect from the light haha

Wow, yeah, I see the difference, now. Well, there still awesome, lol. :-D

Great work - I’ll be looking here the next time I take on some unit painting!
