  • I haven’t seen any games where the US and Japan still have all of their starting fleet in the Pacific on round ten. I’m begining to wonder if there’s even going to be a big naval battle.

    I wanted to try this game just pushing out units from Japan’s main factory and seeing what happened.

    My thought process went along the lines that a stalemate in the Pacific forces the US to spend a lot there.  A decisive naval battle favors the allies because of the distance of supply japan takes.  I say that because to really exploit a clear Pacific, I think Japan has to take Hawaii and be able to hold off a US counter attack.

    Our current game, China is too powerful, basically making it so that I can’t win on that board.  Something didn’t go as planned there!  However, the actual loss of China doesn’t hurt Japan too bad, its only like 10 bucks and China can’t leave their boarders.  I’m still cash sinking the US into a battle that for the Axis is ultimately meaningless, because you can’t let my navy loose to control the islands and threaten UK / Anzak.

    My Japan play is so bad that the best I hope for most games is a draw.  Fighting for China in any meaningful way for me was causing me to lose on the water.  At least this way I didn’t waste money on a factory I can’t support!  One thing I am really in favor now of mobilizing all of Japan’s air power onto flat tops quick and forcing the US into an unfair arms race to hold the pacific.
