• I like turkey as an ally, but one can’t count israel out of its strategic position (the suez canal remember.)

“Israel now decides to occupy 3 areas and declare them their own. They occupy the Gaza Strip, Golan Heights (which belong to Syria) and the West Bank.”

They didn’t NOW decide to do that…that occurred years ago after a war they won. to the victor go the spoils. Though i do support peace, and not support additional settlements, which have been created during the sharron era (around now), but the truth is that israel has been attacked, and is being attacked. the quicker the “palestinians” stop the violence, and make the peace, then the “israeli expansion” will stop. IMO, the settlements are another thing on the israeli bargaining table, just like the “right of return” for arabs. Israel has turned their backs on the settlements before (when they made peace with egypt.)

By the way Yanny, when did you start being interested in politics? do your parents influence you?

I would have to admit my upbringing gave me a lot of my opinions.

  • well it’s not to say that Israel would be a strategic partner if USA were to go with war against Iraq, but Turkey deserves a lot of undue credit.

Palestinians. Also, I don’t think that many Middle Eastern countries were to go to war with Israel if they were to return their settlements aquired many years ago. They’re at least smart enough to know that the Israel are here to stay and it’s time to move on (something a lot of diehard fanatics won’t admit). Beside, Israel has the backing of the most powerful country in the world, there’s just no point to war.

I believe that the Palestinians are in similar situation to the American Revolution. Sure land and rights (taxes and representation in government) played a part in these current events, but I’m sure what the Palestinians want is freedom in their own independent state. Do you think if America were to make peace with Britain, everything would be settled (ie home rule)?

  • Now, you see, it is a possibility (surely not definate), that the point of peace is to shrink and weaken israel for war (remember the sudetan land?.) Now the control of the palestinain water is another iffy subject i need more research for. supposedly the peace proposal was denied for many reasons, one is that the israeli’s control palestinain water. to what extent, and to what truth i cannot tell you.

another thing is that the israelis were willing to trade the land of the settlements for strategically less important land…

when it comes down to it, the palestinians chose war…and not the people, the people in command, who bvenefit from the violence that makes them powerful.

  • Well no one profits in war except for manufacturers and people in a strong political situation that have something to gain for it. Also in the case of the Sudetenland you have a radically different situation compared with the Middle East. A major change is that today we have the United Nations and not the League of Nations which was no more than a laughing stock. Attributing to this was a combination of the Treaty of Versailles, worldwide economic depression, WWI disillusionment, and a lot more .

arms manufacturers and politicians…when it comes down to it thier greed starts the majority of wars.

The UN would be a floating joke if it were a boat. the majority of the countries in it don’t want peace, they just want to promote their own values. the european nations want to promote a leftist agenda, america wants to resist anything that stands against any part of their foreign policy, and the worse part is that the UN won’t use force for anything. The UN was quicker to pass something to condemn both israel and palestine (the US stood in the way), than to say, “you know what, we made israel a state 50 years ago…it is a solid truth that violence is committed by both sides, but for the existance of this state to stay, we must take some sort of action stronger than words.”

condemn whatever you want…what does it do?

The point being is that chipping away at israel is just as much as a tactic as taking soldiers and doing the same.

  • Say what you want about the United Nations. Either it is a oversized knitting circle or a overpowerful superstate, the United Nations is much stronger then that of the League of Nations without America.

I’m not to say that the UN is super efficient at getting the job done and degrades to nothing more than a selfish shouting competition a number of times, but eventually things are done. For example, Operation Desert Storm was one such example of the UN Security in action. The most the old League of Nations would ever do might be to slap an embargo, if even that.

  • The UN is all we got. They are the only organization that involved most every country in the world (with a few notable exceptions).

The UN does a lot. It isn’t high profile, because it doesn’t chose to be.

  • The UN is good in theory, but they fail to take action now, when the world is “teeter-tottering.”

And yes, they are better than the league of nations, but what are they doing besides words? It is time that the UN, and the World speaks out and ends the violence in Israel. Don’t condemn…Make it clear to the world’s media that they will focus on eliminating problems one at a time (like small pox.)

sorry…I really want a wall in israel!

  • I suport americas suport of Isreal. They have one of the strongest militarys in the world. Due in part to the fact that they get 90% of our foriegn aid, and they are fanaticly loyal to their country. The Isralis do not kil palestiny school children. That was a deliberate act of terrorism by the palestinys. As for the UN, it might as well be an extension of america. We give it the most money, the most troops, and a place to frickin meet. If america were to pull out, which it should, the UN would fall apart.

  • {" Due in part to the fact that they get 90% of our foriegn aid"

what? not even close! They get 3 billion, egypt gets 2.

1.8 billion to israeli military aid, and 1.2 billion “economic” aid.

half the hijackers were named muhammed, most were from saudi arabia. does it hurt to pay some closer attention?

  • I found this interesting and relevant:

    Libertarians support right of airlines
    to decide own security policies

WASHINGTON, DC –The federal lawsuits accusing airlines of ethnic
discrimination should be dropped, Libertarians say, because they will
interfere with the fight against terrorism.

“Plaintiffs’ attorneys and special-interest groups should stop terrorizing
the airlines with ridiculous lawsuits,” said Steve Dasbach, Libertarian
Party executive director. “This is no time to be punishing airlines whose
employees make honest mistakes as they try to prevent another nightmarish,
    September 11-style hijacking.”

Dasbach was reacting to the lawsuit filed on Tuesday against four major
airlines by five men who were denied boarding in the wake of the attacks on
the Pentagon and World Trade Center. Other passengers had complained that
the presence of the men, who were perceived to be Arabs, made them
“uncomfortable,” and said they feared another hijacking.

The Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee, which filed the suit on
behalf of the men, claims the airlines’ response is part of a “new and
disturbing trend” of removing passengers because of their “perceived
    ethnicity.”

“There is a new and disturbing trend in America, and it’s called
terrorism,” Dasbach said. "The airlines have been put in a no-win
situation, in which they will be blamed if another hijacking occurs, yet
criticized if they deny seats to the people they think might cause it.

"Yes, people who appear to be Arabic have rights. But what about the rights
of the airline pilots and flight attendants; the rights of the hundreds of
passengers on the plane; and the rights of thousands of Americans who could
be killed in skyscrapers or on the ground if another hijacking occurs?

“Considering the earth-shaking consequences of another hijacking, doesn’t
it make sense to give airlines the benefit of the doubt when it comes to
deciding who can board their planes?”

Of course, airline security personnel will sometimes make mistakes and deny
boarding to innocent people, Dasbach acknowledged.

But consumers who believe an airline is cavalierly rejecting customers
simply because of their ethnic background, and not just over safety
concerns, have a way to punish them, he pointed out. “You can take your
business to another airline or even organize a boycott,” he said.

"Thanks to the power of the free market, airlines and every other private
company have a compelling reason to treat customers fairly: Their jobs and
their profits depend on it. They have an incentive to let as many
passengers board the plane as possible, regardless of their ethnic
    background.

"When it comes to determining which passengers pose an actual threat in the
aftermath of September 11, the real question is: Who decides?

“Libertarians would rather have that crucial decision made by airline
employees with their lives on the line than by lawyers and plaintiffs with
    dollar signs in their eyes.”

  • “you think only arabs hate this country??? There are millions around the world willing to die to stop this country’s immense greed.”

Exactly. What’s to keep these people from joining forces to defeat a common “enemy.”

  • No militia cracker would join forces with a “sand nigger.”

  • What’s to stop them? A “sand nigger” (have no idea where you got this from) has the resources to finance the operation, so why not?

  • Horten: For the UN to stand in Israel, you need the support of Israel and the Palestinians. They don’t have it. Israel defies the UN frequently.
    For the racial profiling:
It is racism, nothing else. It’s against the human rights.

You never heard sand nigger? It’s another racial slur about arabs like “sand hogs” or “rag head.” The point i was trying to make was that those militia white supremecist nut jobs would not work with a race they find inferior. i understand that the US government is claiming that “john doe #2” in the oklahpma city bombing was iraqi, but i doubt it.

  • “Horten: For the UN to stand in Israel, you need the support of Israel and the Palestinians. They don’t have it. Israel defies the UN frequently.”

They do, and yes Israel has a far from perfect human rights record, but they are fighting a never ceasing war. Many countries defy the biased UN. I would have to say that the Palestinian Authority and Iraq by far dwarf israel in human rights abuses.

    “For the racial profiling:
It is racism, nothing else. It’s against the human rights.”

I could say it is not racism…you are just spouting off words. How is it racist? It demeans a race? Racial profiling is like picking a racing horse…you need to pick the right won according to what statistics and numbers tell you…this has nothing to do with race, and too many PC people think so. You cannot deny the fact that 15 out of 19 hijackers on 9-11 were saudi, hald were name muhammed, and that all paid with a credit card…profiling is a great idea…every aspect of a criminal, including race and origin should be considered…not because we don’t like a certain race, but numbers dictate that there is a better chance of preventing a crime from happening. Not taking action is a human rights abuse. 3,000 people dying is a human rights abuse…the right to live.
