@ABWorsham4 probably still scared the starving civilians , carrying rifles and 2 bullets each, half to death at the time though .
Most valuable U.S. fighter plane in World War II
-
this so hard to say as a outstanding fighter in one theater could be very marginal in another ie p-47 Europe great. Pacfic “the P what ?” :-D

The P38 of course. Americas highest scoring ace flew in a P38. (In the Pacific)

If we used scores to figure the greatest Allied Fighter, then the La-5 is the best fighter plane of WW2.

My intention with this poll was to create a discussion about the most valuable fighter to the U.S. war effort. Not to discuss the greatest allied fighter. I think that is discussed in another poll.
-
I do not think the La-5 is the best plane. Kill scores reflect a pilots skills more than the quality of a plane.
-
P-51 because its superior speed and great range singlehandedly won the air war over Western Europe for the Allies.
-
Well the P51 now has a two vote lead. This is about how I expected the voting to go. But I thought there would be more comments explaining reasons for the votes.
-
What model is the American tac bomber?
Is it true that the US tac bomber is the same as the Anniversary edition US fighter? They look the same.

I choose the P-47, although it’s not as sexy as the P-51. The plane played a huge role in the 1944 race across France destroying retreating and advancing supply convoys and attacking rail transports. The plane could take a lot of punishment. And it was a great escort fighter.

The tac bomber is a SBD Dauntless, and the Anniversary Fighter is a F6F Hellcat.
Oh, and I also choose the P-47 for it’s roll as a multi use fighter as an interceptor, fighter and ground attack aircraft, like what Worsham said.
-
F6F because it won the US the Marianas turkey shoot and was a versatile fighter/bomber that could be launched from a carrier
-
All of the above made important contributions to the war effort. Which one do you think contibuted the most. Do you think that there is one fighter that the U.S. could not have done without?
The voting is now closed and the P51 is the winner by 3 votes. Although there was very little commentary as to why.
