@Eric-Poppleton well I tried it by myself some and it sorta worked. My goal was to get my buddies into the game and try it with them but we’re still in the learning phase-figured it’s only a valid test if they have developed strategies in the normal game

Question for those who have many G40 games under their belt. Are Cruisers purchased often? Are they worth spending money on? Do they need to be upgraded?
In my experience, which is not enough, nobody purchases them, or not very often! I think they are a great addition to the game, but maybe they should be made a little better! -
I’ve had a similar experience that they aren’t purchased very often and I think this question comes up every once in a while. My general thought is that there’s almost always a better use for the cash.
If you want them to be a more viable option then you probably need to house rule something for them. On the other hand though, I think they were meant to represent a class of warship that was becoming obsolete, so if you’re more of a historical accuracy kind of guy then you might want to leave them as-is.
Here’s a link to a great video @CorporalClegg did about cruisers, and also the link to some discussion about it on the forum.

@contango thanks Contango! I like the option of another warship! Guess will have to House rule it!
I was thinking of a combined arms option, like when attacking with a battleship, the battleship attacks at a die roll of 5! I also like the 2 hit to sink it option! Maybe a combination of both! -

@gen-manstein yepp I have been and allways will be a great Fan of a AAGun CR., bc this makes it worth buying it!
Imho -
@radioj45 Never built Cruisers in any version, recently made a House rule where they can be Upgraded to a Heavy Cruiser- Pay 5 Ipcs off of a factory seazone in the purchase phase, it’ll turn into a Capital warship where it takes 2 hits to sink!!!
-
@aequitas-et-veritas yea giving them an AA capability is my favorite as well. Could make them a little cheaper would probably help too.
@Nolimit I dig it : )
@Radioj45 yea basically they aren’t bought in OOB rules. The ones you start with are still important though. bombards being their best impact imo anyway. Lots of house rules out there. Should be able to find something you like or modify one to your own tastes. : )

@barnee Move them 3 spaces at all times, and if they roll a 1, it hits a plane. Now its balanced.
-
@imperious-leader my only issue with the moving 3 and AA shot is that the German cruiser can hit the UK fleet and the AA shot can effect the game too much. Do you enact this house rule round 2?
-
@tincanofthesea yea I activate their AA capability in RD 2
“It is recommended to wait until RD 2 to activate BB and CA AA Guns. This prevents breaking early RD battles and reflects the early war successes in air to naval combat.”
Luftwaffe cleaning up the med is a bit more dangerous as well now but … : )
Edit
Yea having em dust a plane with a 1 would be ideal. Kind of a built in AA shot. I can’t make it work on triplea tho which, sadly, is the only way i can play -

Then lower the cost and give them the aa shot.

it’s one of those things where you have “12 IPC’s left” and someone is wanting to build ships but dont just want 2 subs
