To commemerate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the Center for International Maritime Security released what I’ve found to be the most detailed and comprehensive reimagining of this gigantic battle. Japanese admiral Takeo Kurita’s decisions during the battle have always invited a flurry of speculation (including from me), and it’s amazing to see such a rigorous analysis of the possibilities in this engagement. It helpfully also gives a brief summary of the (sadly) obscure battle for those who don’t know much about it. I highly reccomend it, even if it’s (deservingly) a bit long.
