To celebrate both Axis & Allies month as well as the 25th Anniversary of this very website, we will hold the first ever Axis & Allies Cup. Get a team of 5-6 of your best players together and find out who is the best Axis & Allies team in the world.

Details to follow but it will basically work like this:
Every team will play other teams in every version of A&A except 1942SE and Global (versions TBD) Note: this is why your team needs 5-6 players Matches can be played online, in person, via Zoom, whatever you like If you play in person, we might so something special for you. In person matches might be a tie breaker but that is TBD. The four best teams will play a Semi-Final in 1942SE The winers in the semis will play a Final match with Global
If you can’t find 4-5 fiends for a team, we can work on putting folks together.

Ideally, we start in early February so folks can plan their matches.

This is a pre-announcement because I don’t have the details worked out. If you’re interested, please shout out in this thread.

@klykke89 Our group plays global 42. On average the game does not last as long as the 40 setup. Total pieces for the initial setup is 516 for 40 and 427 for 42.

We do 2 sessions, 4 rounds each. At the end of 8 rounds we may elect to use the tournament rule of ipc victory - Axis need 125 in territory value at the end of the round.

I feel strongly that the baseline game should use 2nd Edition rules configured with these optional rules:

Restricted attack (out of box rule)
Neutrals out of play (house rule)
Tech available on and after turn 4 (house rule)

Restricted attack is to prevent a catastrophic material imbalance that favors the allies. Neutrals out of play is to remove “Spanish Harlem”. Tech available on turn 4 is to prevent the USA tech spamming heavy bombers starting on the first turn AND ALSO to decrease the rate of games that go into 20+ turns.

As for bracketing, while I agree with @DoManMacgee, I feel strongly @gamerman01 should have full power to organize as he sees fit since he is assuming the burden of running the show.
